  "This painting is based on a snapshot of my friend's daughter at a sidewalk art festival. My friend was a participant in the competition and brought her daughter along to join in on the festivities. It was beautiful to see her taking her drawing so seriously, just like her mom was. To me this work is as much about freezing a sweet moment in childhood as much as it is about artists who become parents and still continue to create and make space for themselves while bringing their children along and showing them what a life in the arts is. With this rainbow, Dottie is claiming her space and confidently sharing a creation with her family and strangers alike."
