    Bald and Proud

Mixed Media by Liz Monaco (16in. x 22in.)
"This is our country’s 250th anniversary. It inspired me to draw on an iconic symbol the proud bald eagle, to represent my love for our country. The technique used in this work is called the subtraction method where an eraser is used to draw the image from a darkened background. . Colored pencil is the primary medium used to add color."

  • Casa Monica Reflections

    Casa Monica Reflections

Watercolor Mixed Media by Kathleen Thompson (22in. x 26in.)
"Casa Monica Reflections captures the familiar crossing between modern life and the timeless character of St. Augustine. Rather than documenting a specific moment, I sought to convey the feeling of arriving as an afternoon shower transforms the the roadway, and the city's historic skyline into a tapestry of reflected color. Through expressive watercolor and layered transparent washes, I invite the viewer to experience a place where history and the present coexist in quiet harmony. The reflections and luminous color are intended to evoke he feeling of standing after the rain where history is experience through changing light and weather. As a Florida artist, I am continually inspired by the unique character of St. Augustine. My work explores the beauty of familiar places, inviting viewers to pause, remember, and discover something new within landscapes they may have passed countless times. I hope this painting encourages viewers to experience St Augustine not simply as a destination, but as a moment of light, history and quiet wonder."

Fire Over the Bridge of Lions

Watercolor Mixed Media by Kathleen Thompson (22in. x 26in.)
"Bridge of Lions captures the familiar crossing between modern life and the timeless character of St. Augustine. Rather than documenting a specific moment, I sought to convey the feeling of arriving as evening light transforms the bridge, the roadway, and the city's historic skyline into a tapestry of reflected color. Through expressive watercolor and layered transparent washes, I invite the viewer to experience a place where history and the present coexist in quiet harmony. The reflections and luminous color are intended to evoke he feeling of standing on the Bayfront, where history is experience through changing light and the rhythm of the tide. As a Florida artist, I am continually inspired by the unique character of St. Augustine. Ponce de León

Polymer Clay, Acrylic Paint, Golf Leaf, Resin, Gold Filled Chain by Christy Whittle (1in. x 1in.)
"Each piece is meticulously hand-sculpted with polymer clay from scratch and then hand-painted and sealed with resin. The pendant is then set on a 14k gold filled chain. This miniature painting is my tribute to one of the city's most beloved landmarks. Working on such a small scale invites me to slow down and notice the details that give a place its character: the warm terracotta roofs, the soaring towers, the Florida light against a clear blue sky."
