"Burrowing Owls" is part of my most recent collection that puts a spotlight on the birds of Florida featured in the current list of threatened and endangered animals according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. The birds pose on traditionally human furniture that has parts reminiscent of their natural environment. Burrowing owls are unique in that they are small in size and are active in the daytime hours. They live in underground burrows symbolized in the painting by how they are featured under the grass covered stool. "This is a view every Lebanese carries with pride: the Raouché Rocks rising from the sea in Beirut, one of the country's most recognized landmarks. Since leaving in search for a better future over ten years ago, I've found myself returning again and again, through my art, to the places that make home. It's become a way of coping with the pain of watching my birthplace crumble from a distance, with the ache of missing it, and with a love that time and distance haven't been able to touch.
