…mankind are more disposed to suffer, which evils are suffereable, than to right themselves…

Mixed Media Collage by Robin Kunstler (52in. x 15.5in.)
"I interpret this statement from the Declaration as: mankind would rather suffer evils than do the hard work of change. The (false) peace that mankind chooses to live in brings a lethargy that they would prefer to overcome by experiencing the exhilaration of war, with the resulting loss and loneliness. In more recent times the nation has turned outward to wage war rather than make the internal changes that would keep us close to our founding ideals."
