Watercolor Foundations: Washes, Layers, & Light

Comprehensive Workshop with LuAnn Dunkinson

Explore the beauty of watercolor landscapes in this single-day workshop with local watercolor artist LuAnn Dunkinson!

Through demonstrations and guided instruction, students will learn essential watercolor techniques for creating luminous skies, natural depth, and realistic flora and fauna. LuAnn will cover a variety of wash methods and compositional strategies that help bring landscapes to life while keeping paintings fresh, balanced, and expressive.

Students will also discover how to simplify complex scenes, avoid overworking details, and create strong compositions that capture the atmosphere and beauty of the landscape. By the end of the workshop, each participant will leave with a completed watercolor painting and a stronger foundation for continuing their watercolor journey.

This workshop is open to artists of all skill levels.

About the Instructor

LuAnn Dunkinson is a watercolor artist and former president of the Jacksonville Watercolor Society, where she continues to serve on the board as Vice President of Workshops. She earned her BFA from Kutztown University and spent much of her professional career working in interior and architectural design.

An avid traveler, LuAnn spent a year exploring the world with her husband, Andy, and many of her watercolor paintings are inspired by those journeys as well as Florida’s coastal landscapes. She is an active member of the Florida Watercolor Society, Southern Watercolor Society, Jacksonville Urban Sketchers, St. Augustine Art Association, First Coast Plein Air Painters, Florida Artist Group (FLAG), and the Jacksonville Art Guild.
