  • The Promise in the Pane

    The Promise in the Pane

    Mixed, Photo-encaustic by M. Kathleen Warren (24in. x 12in.)
"Our Declaration of Independence states that "all men are created equal" with the unalienable right to liberty, but we see a gap between their words and reality which was only bridged decades later. In the background photograph for the piece, I saw the stark contrast between the lives of those without liberty and the lives of those they served who lived in warm light and comfort. The left side collage, including letter excerpts from my great-great-grandfather who was a plantation owner in SC, hints at what this denial of liberty meant for some. It was only during and after the Civil War in the USA that the right to liberty, denied to so many, was formally granted to these people by the Emancipation Proclamation."

  • The Politician

    The Politician

Pure Pigment Acrylic by Victor Caruncho (36in. x 24in.)
"A surrealistic view....In this Piece, the Snake represents all politicians on both party lines. The red, white and blue boxes represent the United States which at times is hanging by a thread and has been in decline and decay throughout it's history. The Bald Eagle is depicted by the American people with it's head looking down upon it in sorrow."

  • ...mankind are more disposed to suffer, which evils are suffereable, than to right themselves...

…mankind are more disposed to suffer, which evils are suffereable, than to right themselves…

Mixed Media Collage by Robin Kunstler (52in. x 15.5in.)
"I interpret this statement from the Declaration as: mankind would rather suffer evils than do the hard work of change. The (false) peace that mankind chooses to live in brings a lethargy that they would prefer to overcome by experiencing the exhilaration of war, with the resulting loss and loneliness. In more recent times the nation has turned outward to wage war rather than make the internal changes that would keep us close to our founding ideals."
