Acrylic & Pastel on Canvas by Nancy Hamlin-Vogler
(24in. x 28in.)
"As a contemporary mixed-media artist, I approach my work through observation and intuition. I find inspiration in the natural surroundings of my backyard studio, as well as from fortuitous discoveries, memories gathered during worldwide travels and Buddhist practice and study. I have evolved from silkscreen printmaking toward a more painterly practice. I employ acrylics, pastels, charcoal, graphite, and collaged elements— silkscreened and rice papers—on rag paper, board, and canvas.
The Floating Time series began with a visit to Tree Tops Nature Preserve in Davie, Florida, where the day’s birding walk became a meditation on the ephemeral nature of temporal conventions and how uncertainty and impermanence are an integral part of our lives. Back in the studio, I translated those impressions into a nuanced interruption of the subject matter, moving between recognizable forms and a fabricated mirror of reality—a magical illusion.
Floating Time, No. 3, 24 x 28 acrylic on canvas, is mounted in a 24 x 28 Maple float frame."
