Mixed Media Collage by Paula Pascucci
(24in. x 24in.)
"The Roseate Spoonbill embodies a joyful contradiction—bold yet graceful, flamboyant yet deeply attuned to its environment. In this piece, I wanted to celebrate that delicate balance by surrounding the bird with vibrant color, luminous gold, and expansive space.
Created through layers of hand-painted and printed papers over an acrylic underpainting, the collage is built one torn fragment at a time. The process mirrors the rhythms of nature itself: imperfect, intuitive, and slowly revealed. The visible edges, textures, and translucent layers speak to the beauty found in accumulation rather than perfection.
The gold circle serves as more than a backdrop. It suggests the sun, the moon, and the quiet sense of reverence I often experience while observing birds in their natural habitat. The simplified landscape and reflective water allow the spoonbill to exist in a space between reality and memory—a place where color becomes emotion rather than description."
