  • Mysterious Traveler

    Mysterious Traveler

    Wood/Stone/Mixed Media Sculpture by Ron Vellucci (16in. x 16in.)
"Mysterious Traveler was inspired by the jazz band Weather Report’s 1974 album and my fascination with space. As one of my ongoing jukebox series of sculptures inspired by music, the piece captures the mystery and tension between the vastness of space and the human impulse to track, measure, and to understand the unknown, the mysterious. Set within a celestial, circular frame, the composition is made of maple burl, mahogany, pink granite and aluminum, and relies on the arrangement and interplay of the organic elements and textures to suggest an object possessing powerful energy. Precise border overlays of purpleheart create tracking markers, while fir, brass, copper, and silver elements suggest other interstellar bodies. Together, these elements and details combine to create a dramatic, tactile image of an approaching mysterious object."

Passing from One Dream to Another in Lyon

    Photography by Vicky Krombach (29in. x 24in.)
"Passing from One Dream to Another in Lyon was shot as an atypical angular composition. The particular color and tonal range was chosen to create a unique way of seeing and invites the viewer to look at common things in from new perspectives."

  • Castillo de San Marcos 1

    Castillo de San Marcos 1

Dry Point Intaglio by Ted Judy (16.5in. x 13.5in.)
"The Castillo de San Marcos stands as a testament to time and endeavor in St. Augustine, bearing witness to every part of our city's history. The old fort is also one of the most common subjects for artists along the Historic Coast. This artist has chosen the medium of dry point intaglio printmaking for his interpretation of the Castillo. The dry point process begins with a drawing of the subject that is transcribed in reverse onto the face of a styrene plate using various sharp instruments, such as needles, diamond scribers, and even sandpaper. The marks scratch the surface of the plate leaving valleys and burrs. After scribing of the plate, the artist pushes thick etching ink into the plate with twisting pressure to ensure that all of the grooves, scratches, and burrs capture the pigment. The artist then removes the ink from the smooth surfaces of the plate by rubbing, wiping, and careful polishing. The contrast between shadow and light in the composition is accomplished by the selective ink removal, leaving more pigment where the artist wants shadow, and removing more ink for illumination. The plate is printed intaglio with high pressure from an etching press onto damp, high quality cotton rag paper. The result is an image that is like a sketch or pencil drawing, but softer. The artist then repeats the process of inking, wiping, polishing, and printing to create the entire edition of intaglio prints. Getting the exact same result every pull is impossible, so every print in the edition will have its own unique quality. 'Castillo de San Marcos 1' is presented in a limited edition of 25 prints. There will be no giclée or reproductions made. This print is the first in a series of three views of the Castillo de San Marcos produced by the artist using the dry point intaglio method."
