Raouché

Acrylic on Canvas by Francesca Chalfoun
(24in. x 12in.)
***Not for Sale***

This is a view every Lebanese carries with pride: the Raouché Rocks rising from the sea in Beirut, one of the country’s most recognized landmarks.

Since leaving in search for a better future over ten years ago, I’ve found myself returning again and again, through my art, to the places that make home. It’s become a way of coping with the pain of watching my birthplace crumble from a distance, with the ache of missing it, and with a love that time and distance haven’t been able to touch. This piece is as much about longing as it is about the landscape itself: the rocks stand unmoved by the tide, the way home stays fixed in memory even as everything around it changes.
