“Painted near the end of a dune series, “Demarcation” explores how white sand reflects surrounding colors—pink and grey from an overcast sky, ochre and brown from late light on the grass. Cool tones dominate the sky and sea, while warm tones carry the dune. The grasses reflect the native plant life of the Atlantic coast. Finally, value contrast along the horizon anchors the composition and pulls the viewer’s eye back from the foreground.“
