  • Love and Sweet Potatoes

    Love and Sweet Potatoes

    Acrylic by Linda Rafuse (24in. x 24in.)
"Manatees are sweet, gentle giants that live in Florida's waters and frequent the clear springs in the winter time in order to stay warm. Though they look fat they have very little fat so must stay warm by traveling to warm waters like Florida springs. They resemble sweet potatoes in shape and are vegetarians. They don't have teeth but dental plates that grind up the grasses. You can visit the springs in the winter time and see lots of manatees floating together like sea cows which is another name for them. They are endangered so we protect them by making boaters aware of their prescence and hope that the boats go slow to protect the manatees. It is also illegal to touch a manatee but at times they have touched people and they always touch our hearts."
