“Low-country Sunrise explores the color shift from a saturated, warm sky into the cooler greens and blues of the marsh below. The winding tidal creek was placed to lead the eye from foreground to horizon, while the live oak and Spanish moss on the right anchor the composition and frame the sky’s color temperature. Layers of transparent glazes over opaque underpainting were used to achieve the sky’s luminosity without losing the density of the marsh grass in shadow.”
