Burrowing Owls

$2,200.00

Acrylic on canvas by Gwen Mehler
(48in. x 36in.)

“Burrowing Owls” is part of my most recent collection that puts a spotlight on the birds of Florida featured in the current list of threatened and endangered animals according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. The birds pose on traditionally human furniture that has parts reminiscent of their natural environment. Burrowing owls are unique in that they are small in size and are active in the daytime hours. They live in underground burrows symbolized in the painting by how they are featured under the grass covered stool. The backgrounds are designed using my own process that is a combination of grid paper and vinyl to make my own stencils.”
