“The focus of The Light is Fading is value control — a large, soft-edged cloud mass set against a low, warm sky, with the horizon line kept quiet to let the sky dominate. Reflected light in the tidal pools and creek was built up gradually to match the sky’s value without competing with it. The palette stays restrained and close in temperature, letting subtle shifts in the clouds carry the mood rather than color contrast. Experimenting with degrees of tonalism, and the push and pull of looseness and detail.“
