“I was deeply inspired to paint “Fort Mose”. Its recently rebuilt sturdy wooden structure is now full of vitality, yet conveys a rich history, especially as the first legally sanctioned free Black settlement established in 1738. While working with oils and a thickening paste medium, I was very pleased with how the painting was progressing and enjoyed shaping the elements in the foreground.”
