Collecting Freedoms: Project 2025

$175.00

Oil by Luther Steven Walker
(17in. x 14in.)

The declaration of independence, boldly assured that all individuals are endowed with certain unalienable rights, chief among them being life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. It establishes the foundational American promise that the government exists to secure these freedoms not to seize them.

Project 2025 collecting freedoms serves as a Sharpe contemporary satirical critique that founding promise under threat.
By transforming an abstract political manifesto into a literal utilitarian garbage truck systematically rounding up and locking away fundamental liberty such as women’s rights in voting rights the painting visualizes thefragile nature of our constitutional guarantees. It forces the viewer to confront a chilling reversal of our historical ideas, the reality where the machinery of power is used to collect and contain the very freedoms, the nation was born to protect.”
