Founder's Day Plein Air Paint Out
September 4 & September 5, 2026
Artists and art lovers! Join the St. Augustine Art Association and the St. Johns Cultural Council for a two-day Plein Air Paint Out celebrating Founder’s Day and the rich history of St. Augustine, founded in 1565.
Experience the city’s historic charm, unique architecture, and scenic beauty through the time-honored tradition of painting en plein air (outdoors). Watch artists paint on location throughout the city, then visit the St. Augustine Art Association gallery to view works in progress, explore finished paintings, and purchase original artwork inspired by St. Augustine.
This is a free event, but artists do need to sign up and all surfaces must be stamped before painting.
This event is sponsored by the St. Johns Cultural Council.
Plein Air Registration
IMPORTANT: Artists must be 18 years of age or older.
When arriving, registered artists must check-in at the St. Augustine Art Association (located at 22 Marine Street) and have their surfaces stamped before beginning to paint.
Painting Locations
Artists may paint at legal public locations (click here to view the City Map).
If they wish to paint at a private location, the artist is responsible for obtaining the necessary permission to do so. Artists must follow all guidelines and hours any location has.
Wet Room Hours
During the Founder’s Day Plein Air Paint Out, works-in-progress and finished paintings can be viewed & purchased – both online and in-gallery – from the Wet Room here in the main gallery.
Participating artists may paint at any time of day, but the gallery Wet Room will be open during the following hours:
- Friday – 11:30am to 7:30pm
- Saturday – 9:00am to 4:00pm
No entry fee for Wet Room.
