Echoes of Gauguin & Teha’amana

$2,299.00

Acrylic on Plexiglass by Robert Shirk
(24in. x 32in.)

“This painting is inspired by the Tahitian paintings of Paul Gauguin (1848–1903) and his muse and young wife Teha’amana.

Today Gauguin and his relationship with the Tahitian girl Teha’amana is the subject of controversy. My representation of Teha’amana in this painting is a tribute to her and the genius of Gauguin’s art.

I have added a touch of raw Fauvist color to the second sheet of dots. Gauguin is considered one of the precursors of the Fauvist movement with his use of vibrant expressionistic and nonnaturalistic colors some of which were applied directly from the tube.“
