Join artist Gail Beveridge for this engaging 2-day painting foundations workshop designed to strengthen your compositions through the principles of design, value, and color theory. Perfect for both emerging artists and those looking to refine their skills, this workshop offers a supportive and hands-on learning environment.
Day one will focus on the fundamentals of composition through shape and value. Beveridge will begin with a brief look at modern and contemporary artists and how they use design elements to create dynamic works of art. Students will then explore essential painting materials and techniques before creating a monochromatic value study to better understand highlights, shadows, and tonal balance. A series of guided exercises will help students apply these concepts in their own work.
On day two, students will dive deeper into color theory, focusing on value, hue, and how color relationships can create depth and atmosphere within a painting. Beveridge will lead a second demonstration showing how thoughtful color choices can elevate a composition. Participants will then work on their own paintings while receiving individualized guidance and feedback throughout the day.
The workshop will conclude with a group walkthrough and critique, offering students the opportunity to reflect on their progress and learn from one another. Whether you are just beginning your painting journey or looking to sharpen your artistic foundation, this workshop is a wonderful opportunity to grow your skills and confidence.
