The exterior renovation was undertaken in 2015 as a legacy project for Saint Augustine\u2019s 450th Anniversary. Two public sculptures that honor the past and embrace the future were commissioned for the project. The first stop on the citywide TOUCH Saint Augustine Braille Trail, the outdoor gathering space engages the senses and inspires all to explore the town\u2019s rich artistic heritage.<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"container\">\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-sm-12\">\n<p>Visit the Saint Augustine Art Association at 22 Marine Street, Saint Augustine, FL 32084. Admission is free.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft garden-img wp-image-171 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/staaa.org\/touch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/garden-1.png\" alt=\"garden-1\" width=\"300\" height=\"138\" srcset=\"https:\/\/staaa.org\/touch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/garden-1.png 783w, https:\/\/staaa.org\/touch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/garden-1-300x138.png 300w, https:\/\/staaa.org\/touch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/garden-1-768x352.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<h4><strong><em>Take a closer look!<\/em><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Spaces in the Sculpture Garden represent the phases of the creative process: <strong>Inspiration, Exploration, Realization.<\/strong>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-sm-9\">\n<ul class=\"inspiration\">\n<li>The <strong>Inspiration<\/strong> Gathering Garden offers curved benches to rest, reflect and interact.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>Exploration<\/strong> Plaza architecturally connects the interior and exterior spaces. Sphere-shaped planters, modeled after the \u201cOld Spanish Trail\u201d marker, represent the four corners of the globe. The gallery wings embrace visitors as they approach the entry, and the arched windows frame the historic Art y Facts of Drake&#8217;s Raid archaeology exhibit within.<\/li>\n<li>The two large sculptures perched above Rain Gardens in the public landscape represent the <strong>Realization<\/strong> of an idea. The contrasting works symbolize the past and future. Interpretive TOUCH Braille markers for each sculpture provide descriptions for the blind.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-sm-3\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staaa.org\/touch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/garden-2-1.png\"  \/>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-sm-12\">\n<strong>Doorways to Creativity<\/strong><br \/>\nADA pathways and stairs along Marine Street lead to the Loggia Galleria, a covered breezeway and intimate space for temporary exhibitions. The Old Town Landing on Charlotte Street attracts pedestrians from Aviles Street and the popular monthly Art Walks.\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h1>Sculptures in the Garden<\/h1>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-sm-3\">\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staaa.org\/touch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/garden-1.jpg\" alt=\"garden-1\" width=\"250\" height=\"177\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-396\" \/>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-sm-9\">\n<h4><strong><em>\u201cHeavenly Bodies\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Flagler College Professor Emeritus, Enzo Torcoletti\u2019s \u201cHeavenly Bodies\u201d is an abstract figurative stone sculpture that is a metaphor for the creative process and a symbol of the first contact between the Old and New Worlds.<\/p>\n<p>It is a bold statement that challenges the viewer to contemplate how ideas are formed and new worlds are born.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-sm-3\">\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staaa.org\/touch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/garden-2.jpg\" alt=\"garden-2\" width=\"250\" height=\"180\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-397\" \/>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-sm-9\">\n<h4><strong><em>\u201cSignal From Shore\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Acclaimed sculptor, Richard Weaver\u2019s vision of a young Native American child eagerly signaling a boat to shore comes to life in his figurative bronze sculpture.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSignal From Shore\u201d is a poignant tribute to the native people whose labors and sacrifice helped shape a new civilization.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nThese public works of art transform the landscape and serve as beacons, guiding all to the Saint Augustine Art Association, the town&#8217;s cultural epicenter.
