“This piece was inspired by Luke the Lion, a 17 year resident of the Smithsonian Zoo in Washington DC. He was a grand king of the jungle, and lived out his senior years much admired by the staff and patrons there. I was fortunate enough to have seen him twice on our travels there, and couldn’t resist rendering him in pastel as you see here.”
