  • Resilience

    Resilience

Acrylic by Laura Dill (40in. by 30in.)
"This work interweaves messages of courage and love wrapped in the protective beauty of nature. It calls on us to act from a place of peace. Carved into the layers of paint are my own sacred mantras: “I will not stand by in the presence of evil, “Humanity,” and “Act.” As an emerging artist and writer in Jacksonville, I also bring in the flora and fauna of Northeast Florida with hints of sea breeze and bending grasses on the sand dunes. The sweeping movement comes with a call to action to change the world from that place in our souls that is grounded in love. Resilience is me. It is us. This is the original artwork in my “Resilience Project” series. A digital image resides with the Permanent Archives of Stanford University and Florida State University. It is also Published: (a) river rising: Vol. II, Anthology published by Women Writing for (a) Change, Birds and Blooms Edition, Dec 2020."

  • In the land of the Timucua

In the land of the Timucua

Acrylic by Mary Florence Lee (11in. by 13in.)
"Long before Europeans came to this land, the Timucua people lived in what is now Florida and Georgia. This was painted along the shore of the Tomoka River near where a group of Timucua Indians lived 1500 years ago. While there are stories in this area about a mythical chief, that these ancient people lived here is very real. Their spirits may inspire the artists to paint their land."
