"This drawing started in a class in Flagler's Lifelong Learning program. I expanded the assignment for the theme of Fantastic FL: FL equals StAug to me, and the fantastic part is the whole art & creative community here. Thankful for the support and talent of SAAA artists and staff, since Nina Hawkins, who've steered the ship."

  • Great Summer Away

Polymer clay, acrylics, wood by Shelby Clark-Glass (14in. x 5in.)
"This sculpture highlights the humpback whale’s migratory path, which often brings it near Florida's coastlines during winter. The inclusion of human clothing items, such as a scarf and packed shirts, represents the idea of migration as a shared experience across species. By pairing these elements, the work draws parallels between human and animal journeys, underscoring Florida's role as a waypoint for many travelers."

  • Bird of Paradise

Fiber - wet and needle felting by Liz Canali (12in. x 14.5in.)
"Bird of Paradise is one of my favorite Florida flowers. It combines the abstract image of a bird in flight and the awesome tropical feel of my paradise - Florida! This one has a wet felted background with needle felted flower, leaves and details. It is mounted on hard insulation foam with adhesive tabs for easy hanging. It has insulating and sound proofing qualities. Wool is insulating, moisture absorbing and hard wearing. On top of all this, nature has been so brilliant that it has greased each fiber of the wool with lanolin as it grows out of the follicle. The lanolin protects the fiber against water, dirt and odors."
