Fort Mosé 1738 Fashion Pop Up
February 7th – March 7th (In-Gallery)
Founded by Dr. Maurice N. Gattis, Fort Mosé 1738 explores textiles and clothing created by artisans in Accra, Ghana. Their bold clothing connects individuals to their heritage by highlighting contemporary African prints through a kaleidoscope of colors!
Fort Mosé 1738 Fashion Pop Up is on display in-gallery (Tuesdays through Sundays, 12:00 – 4:00pm) February 7th – March 7th, 2025.
Established in 2021, Fort Mosé 1738 started as an idea from a vacation that Dr. Maurice N. Gattis took. He realized that all the beautiful clothing he bought in Accra, Ghana was not able for purchase anywhere in the United States.
Combined with his visit to Fort Mosé, the first free black settlement in Florida that was legally sanctioned in what was to become the United States of America, it gave Dr. Maurice N. Gattis the courage to begin a textile trade between the two countries.
Programs & Exhibits of the St. Augustine Art Association are funded in part by grants from the the St. Johns County Tourist Development Council, the St. Johns County Cultural Council, and the Community Foundation of Northeast Florida.
