Employment Opportunity

Since its founding in 1924 by the second wave of Flagler era artists, the St. Augustine Art Association (STAAA) has been dedicated to the mission of advancing artistic excellence and creating a community art center that would act as a hub for art and culture. The STAAA offers artists of all skill levels opportunities to exhibit, sell, compete, collaborate, and learn through monthly exhibits, educational programs, special events, and partnerships with other groups and organizations in the community. Our Permanent Collection of nearly 500 works, preserves local art history, as much of the Collection is of artwork important to St. Augustine. The STAAA also coordinates monthly First Friday Art Walks and helps promote the Art Galleries of St. Augustine (AGOSA).

Gallery Assistant

The St. Augustine Art Association is seeking a part time gallery assistant with an interest for art to work on weekends and one weekday. They will have administrative and interpersonal duties such as social media management, helping with exhibits, and more.

Reports to:  Program Director
Occasionally Reports to:  Executive Director and STAAA President, Board of Directors

Work Schedule:

Job Summary: The Gallery Assistant will play a crucial role in the daily operations of the gallery, ensuring a welcoming and well-maintained environment for visitors and supporting various administrative and event-related tasks. This position requires excellent customer service skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities.

Part-time – 10-15 hours/week | Weekends (Sat, Sun)

Starting $13hr, negotiable based on experience

This is a contract, hourly position. Benefits, PTO and holiday pay are not included.

Key Responsibilities:

Gallery Operations
  • Open and close the gallery on weekends (Saturdays and Sundays).
  • Maintain the general cleanliness and orderliness of the gallery space.
  • Assist weekend docents in answering visitor questions and processing sales.
Exhibit Management
  • Monitor and input exhibit artwork entries from online submissions into the database.
  • Format artwork entries for online exhibits and printed gallery guides.
  • Able to process and properly document art sales, while adhering to the STAAA Privacy Policy regarding any credit card and personal information security.
Administrative Support
  • Help maintain the docent schedule calendar.
  • Monitor and track online registrations for events and programs.
  • Prepare and send e-newsletters and social media posts.
  • Assist with content creation and engagement on social media.
  • Submit and list events on online community calendars.
Event Assistance
  • Assist with the setup of the gallery for exhibits, events, or programs, which may include arranging art installations, chairs, tables, easels, and A/V systems.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; some college or college degree preferred.
  • Previous experience in a gallery, museum, or similar setting is a plus.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with database management.
  • Basic knowledge of WordPress or willingness to learn.
  • Ability to multitask and handle various responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and move up to 40 pounds. 
  • Capability to stand and walk for extended periods.

Work Environment:

  • The Gallery Assistant will work in a public art gallery setting, interacting with visitors and staff regularly.
  • Occasional evening hours may be required for special events or exhibit openings.
