VOLUNTEERS
Have some spare time and want to spend it in a creative environment? Meet people, get involved, and join the fun! The St. Augustine Art Association has many opportunities for you to share your talents — whether you’re an artist or simply an art appreciator, we’ve got something for everyone!
DOCENTS
Docents are an integral part of the St. Augustine Art Association. These are the volunteers who welcome visitors as they enter the gallery and introduce the current exhibit on display. You don't even need to have a background in art -- just a passion and an excitement to engage with visitors from all over the globe!
This is typically a once-a-month commitment, based entirely on your availability. Only around during the Summer? Or maybe you can only Docent on a weekend every other month? No problem! The Docent Program is flexible enough to fit anyone’s hectic schedule. Positions available 6 days a week with shifts from 1:00pm - 4:00pm.
ARTWORK RECEIVING
The Receiving team works with the staff to facilitate the intake of artwork for each monthly exhibition. This includes monitoring the delivery of pieces that were entered online, and maintaining a sense of organization. Receiving is also a wonderful opportunity to meet and directly engage with local artists -- as well as get a first look at the pieces entered into the upcoming show!
Receiving takes place on the Tuesday and Wednesday (11:30am - 5:30pm) preceding every First Friday of the month.
EXHIBIT INSTALLATION
The Installation team works with the staff in all aspects of gallery preperation each month. This includes the hanging of artwork, moving of pedestals, and mounting the next exhibit display. While this opportunity may be more labor-intensive than most, we wouldn't be able to do what we do without our Installers!
Installation takes place on the Thursday afternoon preceding every First Friday of the month.
HOSPITALITY & SPECIAL EVENTS
The St. Augustine Art Association can always use a few extra hands at the First Friday Art Walks, but also when it comes to throwing a party or hosting a special program. From checking in artists at the annual Plein Air Paint Out, to helping serve food at an evening event, and to even assisting with party decor or last-minute flower arrangements -- these are the volunteers who work behind the scenes to make sure everything goes as smoothly as can be!
STUDENT VOLUNTEERS
Spend the summers helping with our Art Camps -- where you can assist the Instructor and help create a meaningful, hands-on experience for our campers! After all, for those High School students looking to earn their community service hours, what better way to do it than by being surrounded by art?
And, in case that’s not enough, High School students can also gain gallery experience by helping each month at the First Friday Art Walk, where we debut a new exhibition. Greet visitors as they enter, provide directions around the gallery space, and assist the staff with any last-minute finishing touches!
