THE ART OF GIVING

Imagine an organization that welcomes and includes everyone who wants to be part of it. One that supports and provides opportunities for living, breathing artists, while continuing to preserve the history of ART in St. Augustine through its rich Permanent Collection. One that reaches out to the community and partners with other non-profits and businesses. One that, in 2024, will be celebrating 100 years of Making Art History in the Nation’s Oldest City – St. Augustine!

Well, imagine no longer because you have found the St. Augustine Art Association.

Through the Art of Giving, you can join your legacy to ours by providing support that will ensure the continuation of this vibrant, living cultural institution for the next 100+ years.

After you have explored the possibilities in the STAAA’s Planned Giving Fund Policy (click here to download) and discussed it with your financial advisor, please contact the St. Augustine Art Association at info@staaa.org or (904) 824-2310.

WHY THE ST. AUGUSTINE ART ASSOCIATION

One of the most difficult financial decisions to make is what charitable organization(s) you will support, now and through your legacy. Important questions you may ask are: How does the organization use donations to fulfill its mission? What impact does the organization have on its community? How will I be recognized as a donor and how will my legacy benefit from my donation?

At the core of the St. Augustine Art Association, our mission is to support ALL creatives and art appreciators — young and old, beginners and professionals, locals and visitors, the sighted and the blind, the 2D and 3D artist, and the writers. We believe that artists’ successes should be nurtured, supported and celebrated. Because of your financial generosity, the St. Augustine Art Association can make these dreams a living reality.

The St. Augustine Art Association recognizes its donors through customizable opportunities including naming opportunities (funds, programs, awards, etc.), plaques, honorary memberships and benefits, website links and more. We will work with you to determine the best way to recognize your contribution.

No Gift is Too Small to Make a Difference!

Gifts in Honor / Memory Of

Honor a lost loved one, recognize someone special, or commemorate a milestone by making a special gift in their name. Your honoree or their next of kin will be notified of your gift, but will not receive other unsolicited communication from the Art Association. The amount of your donation will not be revealed to the recipient in the notification letter unless requested to do so.

Consult your plan administrator and/or tax advisor for more details.

Planned Giving

A planned gift is one which is legally provided for during the donor’s lifetime but whose principle benefits do not accrue to the Art Association until some future date. Examples of Planned Giving include:

Include a bequest in your will or trust, designate the Art Association as a beneficiary in gifts of your life insurance policies, deferred annuity contracts, IRAs, defined benefit plans, 401(k) plans, or other qualified plans.

Your personal residence, or other real estate property outright or with life use and enjoyment retained by you.

These types of gifts can take the form of a charitable gift annuity, charitable remainder trust and charitable lead trust.

Doug Siess

Doug Siess was a Life Member who served for many years on the STAAA Board of Directors. He was, and his wife Mary still is, a dedicated volunteer and docent. Doug helped with the Annual Arts and Crafts Festival held each Thanksgiving weekend, volunteered as a gallery Docent on the weekends, and generously offered his assistance wherever needed.

Before Doug passed away in 2021, he included the St. Augustine Art Association as a beneficiary in his life insurance policy. Some of the funds the STAAA received were used for the Doug Siess Memorial Awards for the 2022 Plein Air Paint Out.

Carl Steinsieck

Carl Steinsieck was known here in northeast FL for his loose, linear and expressive figure drawings.

When he died at a rather young age, his mother set up the Carl Steinsieck Best Figure Drawing Award and Annuity to give out in the Figure Show each year.

Gary & Patsy Snodgrass

The Snodgrass Family wanted to ensure that the gallery stayed in state-of-the-art-condition for exhibits and programs. Over the years, the Snodgrass Family Foundation generously funded Capital Improvements: new gallery lighting, air conditioning units in the main gallery, renovation of the kitchen and storage area and more!

Faith & Joseph Tiberio

The Tiberio Family has ensured the longevity of the St. Augustine Art Association by funding Capital Improvements such as the addition of both North & South Gallery Wings.

In celebration of their construction, Joseph Tiberio spearheaded a matching-gift fundraiser to establish a Building Fund, which would help fund future maintenance of the Art Association.

JoAnn Crisp-Ellert

JoAnn Crisp-Ellert and Robert (Bob) Ellert were long-time members and active participants of the St. Augustine Art Association. Bob was President of the Board of Directors for 6 years, and JoAnn was an accomplished author and artist. She created pieces in the abstract that remain remarkable for both their spontaneity and volume — as seen by her works in the STAAA Permanent Collection.

Upon the death of his beloved wife, Bob established the Dr. JoAnn Crisp-Ellert Visual Art Appreciation and Visual Art Education Fund through the Community Foundation of NE FL. Grants through this fund support opportunities to educate and bring art to the people of St. Augustine. The fund was established to perpetuate Dr. Crisp-Ellert’s love of art and her appreciation for St. Augustine.

Over the years, the St. Augustine Art Association has benefitted greatly from these grants.

Jean Wagner Troemel

Jean Wagner Troemel was a prolific artist and generous donor to the St. Augustine Art Association during her lifetime. She established the Jean Wagner Troemel Best in Show Award in our monthly exhibits, which we continue to give out today. Jean and her husband founded the Benjamin & Jean Troemel Arts Foundation so that upon her death (2018), her “Love of Art” would continue to support the STAAA and artists in our community in perpetuity.

“I believe so strongly that we must all do our part to keep the arts alive for the next generation,” said the artist, reflecting upon her philanthropic efforts. “The Art Association gives so many artists a chance to get their foot in the door and show their work. It’s wonderful.”
